This component includes the provision of works, goods and consultants' services for: (i) civil engineering preparatory works necessary for the execution of the drilling program (financed by African Development Bank (AfDB); (ii) execution of the drilling program as designed by the geothermal consulting company (jointly co-financed by Global Environment Facility (GEF), International Development Association (IDA) and OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID); (iii) steel material needed during the execution of the drilling program; (financed by French Development Agency (AFD); and (iv) for the inspection and testing of reservoir flow rates (financed by Energy Sector Management Assistance Program (ESMAP). The second component is technical assistance for the drilling program. This component comprises the provision of goods and consultants' services to: (i) design the drilling program and well test protocol; (ii) execute the well test protocol and ensure third party certification of the results of the drilling program; and (iii) preparation of a technical feasibility study for the geothermal power plant provided that the geothermal resource is suitable for power generation. The third component is project management. The project will be financed by a grant from the International Development Association (IDA) Crisis Response Window (CRW). The drought in the horn of Africa in the fall of 2011 put nearly 13.2 million people in urgent need of humanitarian aid across Djibouti, Somalia, Ethiopia, and Kenya. The severity, scale and regional dimensions of the drought emergency led to a coordinated international response whereby the various partners focused on areas of intervention where each has a comparative advantage. In a Board of Executive Directors of the World Bank briefing on June 28, 2011, regional management suggested making available an exceptional CRW allocation toward a comprehensive package of assistance for the most affected countries in the sub-region (Djibouti, Somalia, Ethiopia and Kenya). This assistance, through the CRW, aims to deliver a quick response to the drought and to contain the loss of human life and preserve human capital. To that effect, the World Bank's Board of Directors, on September 15, 2011, approved an allocation of US$250 million from the IDA CRW to the drought emergency in the horn of Africa.

<wbfeed:country_name>Djibouti</wbfeed:country_name><wbfeed:projectid>P130328</wbfeed:projectid><wbfeed:country_code>DJ</wbfeed:country_code><wbfeed:project_status_desc>Active</wbfeed:project_status_desc><wbfeed:flag>CHANGE</wbfeed:flag>

The project DJ- Power Access and Diversification Project Additional Financing II has changed to Active

<p>The project DJ- Power Access and Diversification Project Additional Financing II has changed to Active. This project paper seeks the approval of the Executive Directors to provide a Second Additional Financing (AF II) in the amount of US$5.2 million equivalent, in the form of a grant, to the project. AF II introduces a scale-up of the activities and outreach of the amended scope of the project by providing a crisis response mechanism in the event of drought in Djibouti. All other ongoing activities remain unchanged. AF II will finance the costs associated with activities aimed at expanding the project's outreach to energy disaster risk management tools that will benefit both rural and urban areas. This scaling up of the project was validated through a multi-sectoral drought Post-Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA) that was completed by the Government of Djibouti, in partnership with the international community, on October 25, 2011. The scope of AF II was also agreed to by a letter from the Minister of Economy and Finance, in charge of industry and planning, dated February 2, 2012.

<wbfeed:country_name>Djibouti</wbfeed:country_name><wbfeed:projectid>P130493</wbfeed:projectid><wbfeed:country_code>DJ</wbfeed:country_code><wbfeed:project_status_desc>Active</wbfeed:project_status_desc><wbfeed:flag>CHANGE</wbfeed:flag>

The project Strengthening Institutional Capacity and Management of the Education System has changed to Active

<p>The project Strengthening Institutional Capacity and Management of the Education System has changed to Active.

<wbfeed:country_name>Djibouti</wbfeed:country_name><wbfeed:projectid>P130493</wbfeed:projectid><wbfeed:country_code>DJ</wbfeed:country_code><wbfeed:project_status_desc>NEW RELEASE</wbfeed:project_status_desc><wbfeed:flag>NEW</wbfeed:flag>

The project Second School Access and Improvement has changed to Closed

<p>The project Second School Access and Improvement has changed to Closed.
