The AF is consistent with the Project Development Objectives (PDOs) of the Integrated Transport Project (ITP), which was designed to support a portion of the Government of Lesotho's (GoL) Transport Sector Program (TSP) for the period 2004-2010. In addition, the AF will help alleviate the negative impact of the global financial crisis by creating more employment opportunities, reducing the transport costs of local people, and improving access to basic social and economic services.

<wbfeed:country_name>Lesotho</wbfeed:country_name><wbfeed:projectid>P119443</wbfeed:projectid><wbfeed:country_code>LS</wbfeed:country_code><wbfeed:project_status_desc>Active</wbfeed:project_status_desc><wbfeed:flag>CHANGE</wbfeed:flag>

The project LS -2ND POVERTY REDUCTION SUPPORT CREDIT has changed to Closed

<p>The project LS -2ND POVERTY REDUCTION SUPPORT CREDIT has changed to Closed. The operation will support the Government of Lesotho's development program that underpins its Interim National Development Framework (INDF) and the growth strategy. The operation amount is US$25 million equivalent. The operation comes at a time when the Government of Lesotho has to cope with the adverse impact of the global recession while retaining focus on longer-term reforms to achieve faster growth, address the HIV/AIDS pandemic, to tackle significant human development challenges in health and education, and to improve public financial management. The amount includes US$10 million equivalent from the Crisis Response Window (CRW), of which US$5 million equivalent is a grant. The Government of Lesotho (GOL) is seeking the support of its development partners as it responds to cushion the decline in aggregate demand and shelter the vulnerable segments of the population. The PRSC-2 will support and help protect the Government's long term reform program, essential for the country's sustained development, as it seeks to mitigate the impact of the economic crisis while facing a shrinking resource base. The fiscal space, analytical support, and policy dialogue that will go with the operation will help guide the Government's focus on key reform areas. It will also play a catalytic role to furthering the policy dialogue on major reform areas such as public financial management, education, and health.

<wbfeed:country_name>Lesotho</wbfeed:country_name><wbfeed:projectid>P112817</wbfeed:projectid><wbfeed:country_code>LS</wbfeed:country_code><wbfeed:project_status_desc>Closed</wbfeed:project_status_desc><wbfeed:flag>CHANGE</wbfeed:flag>

The project EFA Fast Track Initiative Catalytic Fund Grant for Lesotho has changed to Active

<p>The project EFA Fast Track Initiative Catalytic Fund Grant for Lesotho has changed to Active. The second level restructuring aims to: (i) realign the project with the new National HIV/AIDS Strategic Plan (NSP) 2011-2016 by focusing attention on key prevention and mitigation measures: (ii) ensure a more strategic focus by consolidating and prioritizing capacity strengthening support; and (iii) sharpen the results focus through a revised results framework with clearer linkages between the activities to be financed and the expected outcomes. The Project Development Objective (PDO) of building capacity of government agencies and civil society organizations remains relevant and will not be modified. The need for restructuring and the broad strategic directions were discussed during the April-May 2011 supervision mission. Subsequently, the Bank team provided technical support to the government to reach consensus among key stakeholders on a core group of priority technical assistance activities. During the annual meetings the Bank team met with the delegation and firmed up commitment to the restructuring which was finalized during the October 2011 mission.

<wbfeed:country_name>Lesotho</wbfeed:country_name><wbfeed:projectid>P107375</wbfeed:projectid><wbfeed:country_code>LS</wbfeed:country_code><wbfeed:project_status_desc>NEW RELEASE</wbfeed:project_status_desc><wbfeed:flag>NEW</wbfeed:flag>
